Install the Open Tracked Pixel with Google Tag Manager

Add the pixel as a tag, use your dataLayer events, or send data through your own tagging server.

Use the Open Tracked template

The template gives you a tag with its own Pixel ID field and one setting for each event. No code to paste.

  1. Import it

    Download open-tracked.tpl. In Tag Manager open Templates → Tag Templates → New, press the ⋮ menu, choose Import, pick the file and Save.

  2. Install the pixel

    Tags → New → Open Tracked. Choose Install the pixel, enter your Pixel ID (it starts with os_) and use the All Pages trigger. Tip: keep the ID in a Constant variable.

  3. Add event tags

    Add one Open Tracked tag per event, such as Purchase on your order confirmation page. Each tag has its own Pixel ID, so it works on its own.

  4. Check it

    Press Preview, load your site, and watch the live view in Open Tracked.

The pixel already reads GA4 ecommerce events from your dataLayer. If you send the same events with template tags, untick Also read GA4 ecommerce events from the dataLayer on the install tag. By default the tag waits for analytics_storage consent.

Product details (content ID, name, type, category, variant), value and currency are fields in the tag, so you do not add properties by hand. UTM parameters, ad click IDs and the _fbp, _fbc and Google Analytics cookies are collected by the pixel itself. There is nothing to set up for them.

Or load the pixel with Custom HTML

  1. Create the tag

    Tags → New → Custom HTML. Paste your snippet from Settings → Pixel & install.

    Custom HTML tag
    <script async src="https://app.opentracked.io/os.js?k=YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-key="YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-window="30"></script>
  2. Set the trigger

    Use All Pages, then publish.

Use your dataLayer events

These GA4 ecommerce events are picked up with no extra setup:

view_item view_item_list add_to_cart remove_from_cart begin_checkout add_payment_info purchase search sign_up generate_lead

Purchase event
dataLayer.push({
  event: 'purchase',
  ecommerce: {
    transaction_id: '1001',
    value: 98.00,
    currency: 'USD',
    items: [{ item_id: 'SKU-1', item_name: 'Product name', quantity: 2, price: 49.00 }]
  }
});

transaction_id is required for a purchase.

Server-side tagging

Open Tracked can host your server container on your own domain.

  1. Create the container

    In sGTM Containers, create one and paste the Container Config from Google Tag Manager.

  2. Add your domain

    Press Add custom domain, use a subdomain like data.yourshop.com, add the DNS record shown, and verify.

  3. Point your tags at it

    Set the server container URL in your Google tag to that domain, and add it under Admin → Container Settings → Server container URLs.

  4. Preview

    Press Preview in the server container, then load your site with Tag Assistant connected.

The default address <id>.opentracked.io is for testing. Use your own domain in production.
